One of my biggest lessons this year was that the tough stuff often leads to the great stuff! And while some things might not seem fun at the time, they can provide an opportunity for something better.
I started a list of the good and bad for this year but have realised there was usually something good that came out of the bad things. So now it’s just a list for 2017.
- Becoming a certified life coach – new skill and qualification
- 80 hours of coaching done and it was so much fun!
- Part time job working 4 days a week (still in shock about that – never imagined I could ever actually do this)
- Holidays! Palm Cove, New Zealand, Melbourne and Manly without going into debt
- Being bitten by a dog
- Ending some long term friendships
- 3 weeks of being sick
- Learning new mindset skills including loving myself more, having faith in my value and being prepared to get out of my comfort zone!
- 3 months not working to focus on me
- Starting a new fabulous relationship
- Gum surgery
- Starting saving in December with $300
- Starting running – I’ve done 15 Saturday morning official Park Runs at 5 different locations
- Starting spin classes when I didn’t believe I could do them
- Getting inspiring mentors
- Starting to rebuild my tribe – with positive people wanting to create their best lives
- Starting my blog (74 blogs), videos (32), newsletters and Instagram (594 posts this year)
- Photo shoot screaming under pouring water with Alex Weltlinger
Lessons
- Loving yourself is the most important thing you can do for your life, your happiness and for those around you. I didn’t realise how important this was until I started focusing on it and suddenly amazing things started happening in my life.
- You are responsible for your own happiness and it starts on the inside. No one else can make you happy, nor money or a big house etc. It’s your choice.
- If you stop growing you die. Stop focussing constantly on exercising your body and exercise your mind too. Growth is the best feel good thing.
- Faith over fear (lost some of this near the end of the year and will put more focus here in 2018).
- Stop comparisons and worrying what other people think. Do your thing. Do what you love. It’s more important to determine who you want to be, rather than what other people think you ‘should’ be.
- Sit with your feelings. Accept whatever is going on for you when it’s not great – sad angry, loneliness. When I resist feeling uncomfortable by drinking or bringing on Netflix, it doesn’t go away. When I just sit and acknowledge the feelings and feel like crap, I tend to wake up the next day with the bad stuff lifted. Use negative feelings where possible to give you a reason to change something.
- Write down your goals – magic can happen. And does!
- A lesson from the last 3 years – tiny baby steps really do add up. You reach big goals and greatness from very small action taken over and over again.
- BE KIND TO YOURSELF!!!!!
But no matter what happened this year, next year you can choose differently. What do you choose? I wish you every happiness in 2018 and that you feel great as often as possible.
